Ms Coco said human professionals will always be needed in professional agencies and in-house, and that there were still some massive flaws in generative AI. This includes the phenomenon of “hallucinating”, where the software essentially fabricates information.

Highlighting the potential for AI to create rather than destroy employment, online freelancer marketplace Fiverr has decided to add a new category of worker to its site, due to demand for freelancers with the ability to work with AI.

The company’s founder and chief executive, Micha Kaufman, said it had seen a dramatic increase in searches for people to provide AI-related services in the past six months.

“The disappearance of some jobs and the appearance of new ones is a natural evolutionary step,” he said.

“In the same spirit, some of the categories we have on our marketplace today will not be here in five years, and that is perfectly okay because a lot more new categories will replace them.

“The old Photoshop artist is now the new Midjourney designer. If you search Fiverr for these new experts, you will notice that they are popping up at an accelerated rate.”

Founder and managing director of AI and automation specialist consulting firm Mindfields, Mohit Sharma, said his clients were experimenting with generative AI, with most currently seeing it as a way to remove mundane tasks from staff rather than replace them.

“In the first phase it will not replace white-collar jobs, but enhance the quality of their outcome,” Mr Sharma said.

“Generative AI is currently at the ‘hyper-hype’ phase and should not be treated as a threat to the job market.”
