There are nearly one million Aussies who hold a second job, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Freelancing website Fiverr said the uptake in dual employment is no surprise and said it’s seen an increase in the number of people looking to supplement their income as the cost of living continues to rise.

“In Fiverr’s Australian freelance community, we see everything from parents working a few extra hours a week to assist with childcare costs, to digital marketers working with global clients on the side and turning this into full time employment after some time,” Fiverr community organiser Oliver Woolrych said.

According to Fiverr, some of the most in-demand and lucrative skills on the platform include social media marketing ($300 to $1,955 per job), marketing strategy ($1,600 to $6,900 per job) and Facebook Ads management ($580 to $1,400 per job).

But there are a ton of different and creative ways you can earn some extra cash. Here’s some of them.
Victorian mum and boutique country hotel owner, Kelly Petering, has a side hustle doing voice of work. She started her side hustle in 2014 and now makes thousands per month.
“Over time I have built up my monthly income to between $1,000 to $3,000 per month working around three to four hours per week,” Kelly said.
“It’s a great way for me to use my skills to increase income in a short time frame.”
Guitar teacher and dad Andy Collins has a side hustle doing voice over and spokesperson video work. Since starting on Fiverr 10 years ago, Andy said he’s earned around $285,000.
His side hustle now makes up “about 60 per cent” of his income and allows him to work from home while he pursues his other business.
Alejandra Cerball is a freelance writer and travel and lifestyle blogger and uses these skills to supplement her income.
The Queensland mum of two started on Fiverr in 2020 and has now made $6,236, with each project earning between $50 and $2,000.
She usually puts the extra cash towards her family “travel fund” so she can create new experiences with her young kids.
Queenslander Joe Guillar does video editing and motion graphics jobs on Fiverr and has made $145,000 since joining the platform in 2016.
While the amount of work he does varies, Joe said he generally earns around $1,500 per month for a couple of hours of extra work.
“During the pandemic I was able to earn $33,000 on the platform to keep my head afloat,” Joe said.
